Sworn Translation

What it is and how it is done

A sworn translation (also known as a certified, legalised or notarised translation) is one carried out by a professional translator who, in addition to having an academic background in philology and translation, has passed an official examination and is authorised by a competent national authority to produce legally valid translations. In Spain, sworn translations can only be done by translators authorised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.
The original document and its translation are printed and each page is stamped, signed and numbered by the translator, who certifies the validity of the translation in a similar manner to a notary.
There is also the option to obtain the documents in digital format. These translations are scanned and delivered in PDF format, also bearing the stamp and signature of the sworn translator on each page.
The format of the sworn translation is determined by the institution to which it is submitted: some may require a hard copy, while others consider a digital version to be sufficient.
Sworn translations are quoted on the basis of the number of words or pages to be translated, the language combination and the delivery date. Small numbers of pages can be delivered in 1-2 days, while longer texts may require more time.
We have over 10 years of experience in providing sworn translations for our clients.
